The Department of Anthropology operates a fully equipped ceramic analysis laboratory, with thin sectioning machines, kiln, petrographic and binocular microscopes, and photographic equipment. Michael Dietler and James Osborne teach courses in ceramic analysis, and the facility is available for graduate student research projects. In addition, the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures has extensive ceramic collections from the Near East, and courses on pottery from that region and the Mediterranean are given in NELC and Classics.
