Archaeologists at the University of Chicago have access to two museums on campus, The Museum of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures (ISAC) and the Smart Museum of Art. In addition, the archaeological, human skeletal, and comparative mammalian collections of the Field Museum of Natural History are also accessible to graduate students. Other nearby museums of interest to archaeologists include the DuSable Museum of African American History, in Hyde Park, and the Art Institute of Chicago, in the Loop. Courses in museology and training in conservation methods are also provided by the Department of Anthropology and the Oriental Institute Museum, which has an outstanding conservation laboratory.
